It’s been awhile, I know. I’m going to try to post more often. The group I was in sort of disbanded, but I still want to try new things and learn more about photography.
For now, here are my boys:
Patton

Nico

The Husband

As you can see, I’ve been practicing a bit with black & white adjustment in Photoshop.

I finally figured this out thanks to an online tutorial. A friend pointed out that the composition of this shot is a bit “wonky” and it would be better if the building were not in focus, but rather just the lamppost. I agree. Now I need to learn some things about depth of field so I can make that happen next time!
And without further ado, I give you : Quincy Market

And another shot of the inside of Quincy Market that I think is kind of cool (no selective coloring here):

Nor’Easter and subsequent week of night classes interfered with my attempt to get a good sunset shot. Even this weekend, the sky was cloudy and I didn’t see much worth shooting (I know, there is always SOMETHING worth shooting). I was looking forward to this assignment, as I love sunsets. Whenever I go on vacation somewhere, I always gravitate towards the postcards that have the city/beach pictured at sunset.
So as not to leave you without any photos, I’m “cheating” a bit and posting some sunset shots I took when we were in Costa Rica this summer. What a beautiful place!

I’m hoping more of my friends (and their friends) will allow me to take photos of their pets (and also their pets WITH them). So I’m doing a post with some of the pet portraits I’ve done already.

We’ve been in the midst of quite the Nor’Easter, and it took me awhile to get my camera out of my car and upload these.
I liked the idea of this assignment. It is especially useful to use the ground-level perspective for some of my favorite subjects (my dogs)!
I do wish the colors were more vibrant. I still need to learn more about aperture settings, etc so that I get better results.

I need to do this one! Here’s one, though…

- a dog at the pool party we went to
The husband has taken some awesome motion shots at the air show we go to….but I can’t take credit for those!

Here are a few “placeholders” until I get out to do this assignment. The tree is a Japanese plum tree from our front yard, and these were obviously taken in the spring. All are unedited and were taken with my Pentax K100D.

Who needs to go to D.C. to see blossoms?!

Same type of tree, just older.

...didn't quite achieve what I wanted.

more blossoms!

I like the selective focusing, but my composition could've been better.

We’ve been fostering Nico since he was approximately 5 weeks old. He was supposed to be adopted, but the adopter wound up choosing his littermate instead (a better match for her own dogs), and we decided that was a sign that he was meant to be with us. Patton and Nico get along so well…just last night as I stepped out of the shower I noticed them snuggling (otherwise known as Patton using Nico as a pillow/headrest). The house is definitely NOT quiet with Nico and Patton running around…but I guess we wouldn’t have it any other way! (okay, maybe it is nice when they’re sleeping…)
Nico in the first few days:

He only looked sweet and innocent.

The face will win you over, but the puppy teeth and claws would destroy you!
Nico & Patton:

Isn't Patton a good big brother?

Doing what they do best...along w/ sleep & eat!(Nico's approx. 17wks here)

Not all that happy with these…more to come…

I was excited for this assignment, but didn’t get to spend as much time on it as I would have liked. And I was so focused on snapping shots of the bugs, that composition went out the window…once again. When will I learn?! I also used the wrong lens for this…at least for some of them. I was excited about macro shots, and having a close-up of a bug. Instead, mine are lost in the background.
The itsy bitsy spider…

The spider might have been dead, I am not really sure.

It’s business time. I literally didn’t really notice the other dragonfly. And this one is out of focus. But I really didn’t get that many!

Busy bee!

From Brendon:
Our little eight-legged friend (in Costa Rica)

Brendon has probaby already identified this one, but I have no clue. It’s pretty cool, though!

This one Brendon took at our local nature park…
